St. John's has offered worship, mission and outreach in Huntington for more than fifty years. Begun
in 1953 as a mission, under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Roger S. Tyler, Rector Emeritus of Huntington's Trinity Episcopal
Church, St. John's quickly obtained a building site on Washington Boulevard and erected a brick structure inspired by
the Bruton Parish Church at Williamsburg, VA, designed by architect Albert F. Tucker. In 1955, the first service was
held in the sanctuary, and in 1957, St. John's became a parish. St. John's has grown to include
a Parish Hall, completed in 1968, that has been home to its Sunday School, Education for Ministry (EFM), Vestry meetings,
outreach activities, the church offices, a pre-school, and many other events in the life of the church.

Our rector of 13 years, the Rev. Donald Vinson, was recently called to serve as Director of Congregational Development
for the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia. Fr. John Stonesifer, from the Diocese of Washington, and experienced
in transitional ministry, arrived in November to serve as our Interim Rector. During this time of transition and search
for a new rector, we continue to gather together for inspiring worship, meaningful outreach ministries and caring fellowship.
St. John's is a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia, served by the Rt. Rev. W. Mitchie Klusmeyer.
This diocese is made up of over 70 parishes spread throughout the state of West Virginia. The Episcopal Church is part
of the world-wide Anglican Communion. This Communion offers a rich tradition of being both Catholic, meaning
true to the universal, historic Christian faith -- and Protestant, meaning reformed and evangelical in its theology.
