A crucial part of our faith is to seek and serve Christ in all persons.  Here are just some of the ways we live out this commitment.

Alcohol Anonymous & Al-Anon Family Group
These two groups are hosted by St. John's to serve the community.  Meetings take place on Tuesday nights, 8pm.

Cridlin Food Pantry - Hosted by Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Huntington, this ministry has been supported by St. John's for many years.  Simply bring canned and/or dry food contributions to church and we'll get it delivered to Trinity Church for distribution!

Dress for Success River Cities -  Begun by our parishioner, Dr. Sherri Smith in 2006, the mission for Dress for Success River Cities is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. It is part of Dress for Success which has over 80 affiliates world-wide!  Check out the link for more information on this ministry.

Equal Exchange Coffee - Small choices can make a difference, so we use Equal Exchange Coffee each Sunday.  Equal Exchange offers various items from democratically run farmer co-ops in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Faith in Action of the River Cities - St. John's works to serve the three local counties with this outreach ministry,  which was begun in 1996.  Faith in Action of the River Cities, which is part of the Faith in Action national program, assists in bill paying, chores, housekeeping, meals, shopping and transportation.  Call our office to learn more about opportunities to serve!

Prayer Quilt Ministry - From the vision and dedication of parishioner Lynn Butler, this ministry of prayer and outreach is a labor of love as quilts are hand-made here at St. John's by parishioners, and then delivered to those for whom we pray.  This ministry is part of "Prayers & Squares", an international organization that brings together over 700 chapters that share this commitment to the gift of prayer coupled with the gift of a hand-tied quilt.  For more information on this special ministry, contact the office.

Hospice of Huntington - Just celebrating 20 years of service to Huntington, we support Hospice in a variety of ways, such as:  hosting Hospice community programs; having members work or volunteer with Hospice as well as having our Interim Rector serve there as a Chaplain.

Huntington City Mission -  We support this downtown ministry which includes a men's and women's shelter, a food kitchen and a clothes closet.

Ronald McDonald House - We are proud to support the Ronald McDonald House in a variety of ways throughout the year.  Watch in our newsletter for the latest opportunities to serve this worthy charity.

St. John's House - Our flagship ministry, St. John's House Learning Center is located in the Marcum Terrace Community Room.  This ministry outreach to children meets  four afternoons per week.  Recognized as a "Jubilee Center" for the Episcopal Church, we serve children ages 4 to 12, providing an after-school program with games, activities and a full meal.  There are additional support services available for families.  To learn more about how to support this vital ministry, contact the church office or the St. John's House Director, Mary Holbrook, at 304-417-7588.

UTO - We actively support the United Thank Offering, particularly as its Spring Ingathering.  The United Thank Offering is a program of the Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole Church, founded by and administered by women since 1889.

These are just some of the numerous outreach ministries in which we are involved.  Contact us for information about our additional outreach activities.
